The Southern Region of the United States includes 14 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The highest point in the Southern Region is Mt. Mitchell at 6,684 feet in North Carolina with the lowest point being sea level. The Capital of Alabama is Montgomery. Alabama has a population of 4,530,182 as of 2004. It was added as a state on December 14, 1819, and has a land area of 50,744 sq. miles. It has a high point of 2,407 feet at Cheaha Mountain, and its lowest point is sea level. The state bird is the Yellowhammer and the state flower is the Camellia. Alabama is bordered by Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas. Arkansas was added as a US State on June 15, 1836, and has a land area of 52,068 sq. miles. It has a population of 2,752,629 as of 2004 and is bordered by Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The state bird is the Mockingbird, and the state flower is the Apple Blossom. The high point of Arkansas is Magazine Mtn at 2,753 feet, and the low point is 55 feet at the Ouachita River.

Delaware has a land area of 1,954 sq. miles, and a population of 803,364 as of December 2000. It was added as a state December 07, 1787, and its capital is Dover. The highest point in Delaware is 442 feet at Ebright Azimuth, and the lowest point sea level. It is bordered by Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Delaware state flower is the Peach Blossom and the state bird is the Blue Hen Chicken.

Tallahassee is the capital of Florida, which was added as a state March 3, 1845. Florida has a land area of 53,927 sq. miles, and has a high point of 345 feet at Britton Hill and a low point of sea level. Florida has a population of 17,397,161 as of 2004 and is bordered by Alabama and Georgia. The state bird is the Mockingbird, and the state flower is the Orange Blossom.

Georgia had a population of 8,829,383 as of 2004 and has a land area of 57,906 sq. miles. It is bordered by Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald at 4,784 feet, and the lowest point is sea level. The Capital of Georgia is Atlanta. It was added as a state January 2, 1788. The state bird of Georgia is the Brown Thrasher, and the state flower is the Cherokee Rose.

Kentucky has a population of 4,145,922 as of 2004 and a land are of 39,728. The Capital of Kentucky is Frankfort, and it became a US State on June 1, 1792. It is bordered by Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The Kentucky state bird is the Cardinal and the state flower is the Goldenrod. The highest point is Black Mountain at 4,145 feet and the lowest point is the Mississippi River at 257 feet.

Baton Rouge is the Capital of Louisiana. It is bordered by Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas. Louisiana had a population of 4,515,770 as of 2004, and a land area of 43,562 feet. Louisiana became a US State on April 30, 1812. The state bird is the Eastern Brown Pelican, and the state flower is the Magnolia. The highest point in Louisiana is Driskill Mtn at 535 feet, and the low point is 8 feet below sea level at New Orleans.
