New England Region

Connecticut

Hartford is the Capital of Connecticut, a state with a land area of 4,845 sq. miles, and a population of 3,503,604 as of 2004. Connecticut was added as a state January 9, 1788 and is bordered by Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. The high point is Mt Frissell at 2,380 feet, and the low point is sea level at the Long Island Sound. The state bird is the Robin, and the state flower is the Mountain Laurel.

Maine

The Capital of Maine is Augusta. Maine became a US State on March 15, 1820, has a land area of 30,862 sq. miles and a population of 1,317,253 as of 2004. The state bird is the Chickadee and the state flower is the White Pine Cone and Tassel. The highest point of Maine is 5,268 feet at Katahdin Mtn, and the lowest point is sea level. Maine is bordered by New Hampshire.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts is bordered by Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. It became a US State on February, 6 1788, and its Capital is Boston. Massachusetts has a land area of 7,840 miles and a population of 6,416,505. The Highest point is Mt Greylock at 3,491 feet and the lowest point is sea level. The Massachusetts state bird is the Chickadee, and the state flower is the Mayflower.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire is one of the smaller states with a land area of 8,968 sq. miles, and a population of 1,299,500 as of December 2004. New Hampshire was added as a state June 21, 1788, and its capital city is Concord. It borders the states of Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont. New Hampshire's highest point is Mt. Washington at 6,288 feet, and its lowest point is sea level. The state bird is the Purple Finch, and the state flower is the Purple Lilac.

Rhode Island

The Capital of Rhode Island is Providence. Rhode island was added as a US State on May 29, 1790. It has a land area of 1,045 sq. miles and had a population of 1,080,632 as of 2004. The state bird is the Rhode Island Red, and the state flower is the Violet. It is bordered by Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. The highest point in Rhode Island is Jerimoth Hill at 812 feet, and the lowest point is sea level.

Vermont

The Hermit Thrush is the state bird of Vermont and the state flower is the Red Clover. Vermont is bordered by Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York. The highest point in Vermont is Mt Mansfield at 4,393 feet and the lowest point is 95 feet at Lake Champlain. It had a population of 521,394 as of 2004, and has a land area of 9,250 sq. miles. The Capital is Montpelier, and Vermont became a US State on March 4, 1791.
